Teenagers’ Vocabulary Knowledge and Self-Efficacy as Elements in Effective L2 Online Searches

As English dominates the Internet, most education systems need to prepare pupils perform L2 information searches. Generating efficient search terms and understanding retrieved requires good vocabulary knowledge. This study examined relationship between knowledge, online searching, attitudes towards searching. A sample of Swedish pupils’ abilities in locating suitably difficult texts learning words were tested by comparing their Vocabulary Size Test scores with lexical density results subsequent text production. Long-term recall self-efficacy for searching also tested. The indicate that tended read write below ability level. They unaware they could achieve more as measures indicated high confidence levels despite rather modest skills. challenge posed findings is enable teenagers recognize how much effectively use without damaging confidence.
